Mental Health Awareness Assembly

Well done to all the classes who took part in our mental health awareness assembly. The theme this year was making connections and we have been to visit other classes, sent cards to BELONG nursing home as well as sharing our experiences with our families at home. we thought about the mental health five a day of keeping active, connecting with others, giving something kind to others, learning new skills and being mindful. I was so proud of the examples children gave to me for how they have done these things across the week and how they will continue to do them over the weekend and through the holidays.

Valentines Messages

Ash 1 have been doing lots of lovely learning in relation to our PSHE topic “Looking after me and others”. Pupils have been attempting to distinguish between older and younger people, before suggesting different ways in which we can care for them.

One of the ways they’ve gone about this is by creating a heart filled with lovely messages for members of the local assisted living facility known as Belong Atherton.

Valentines Art Gallery

For our Rowan Tree Reward day for Spring 1 the School Council choose to have a Valentines Art Gallery. All classes were tasked to produce any type of Artwork  for the gallery linked to their Art topic.

All pupils from across school came into the hall during the day to look at the gallery and vote for their favourites. We also asked our Head teacher and School improvement partner to vote as well as members from our local community!

Church Valentines Afternoon tea

We invited the local Church for a Valentines themed afternoon tea. The school council greeted them with confidence and introduced the afternoon. Members of the school council then helped to serve cakes as well as recite a Valentines Poem that they had written and learn to perform during their drama session. Younger pupils from across school then show cased some of their favourite songs to dance to.
We also asked Church members to vote for their favourite pieces of artwork that classes had produced as part of our Rowan Tree Art Gallery.

Children’s Mental health Week ‘Let’s Connect’

As a school we recognise the important of children’s mental health and work hard every day to make sure pupils are happy, regulated and know that there is someone to talk to if they need to. For Children’s Mental Health week, we used the theme of ‘Let’s connect’ to promote this even further. Throughout the week classes were paired up and encouraged to do lots of different activities together, we also had Alison and Mandi (who are trained in Lego Therapy) offer Brick Club for lots of different children from around school as well as Gareth (Literacy lead) to deliver drama sessions based around mental health.
We had such a fun week ‘connecting’ and lots of classes are carrying on with these activities weekly connecting and learning with different friends from across school.

Wellbeing Committee

We are pleased to introduce the Wellbeing Committee chaired by our Wellbeing and Hospitality Lead Barbara Critchley. The main role of the committee will be to communicate, participate, motivate, and support the wellbeing of both staff and pupils. The committee will look at our present practice and continue to build on it to make Rowan Tree Primary the best place it can be for anyone that visits us.

Rev’d Tracy Marshall’s Licensing Service

Louise Curran and Kathryn Oliver were invited to Rev’d Tracy Marshall’s licensing service on Tuesday 7th February. Great evening with wonderful people from our local community.
Thank you to Tracy for the invite and a massive thank you for everything she does for our School.

Numeracy in Cedar 2

Learners in Cedar 2 have been working on sorting and handling data. They sorted their cotton reels into colours and with support counted them.

Fir 2 Connecting

Fir 2 & Cedar 2 have been connecting with each other this week! The children have taken part in a range of different learning activities together including messy play, snack time, sensory circuits, and lots of playing together.

Pine 2’s Science Experiment

Which Material will Keep Teddy Dry?

This week Pine 2 have been conducting an experiment. This term their learning has been all about materials and their properties. They tested their knowledge by making predictions about which material will keep the teddy dry. Then we tested our predictions by covering the teddy with the material and pouring water over it. Teddy was very wet by the end, but the children learnt a great deal about the properties of different materials.

Great job Pine 2!
