In school this year we are meeting curious critters! We have been ticking skinny guineas, stroking snakes and feeling cockroaches! We have been very brave even if our teachers were more reluctant! This is helping to reduce our anxieties around animals and explore different animals close up.
This half term, Elm 1 have been learning about and exploring all areas of Our School. The pupils had the chance to visit our Soft Play, Cooking Room, Sensory Gym, Sensory Studio, Immersive Learning and Natures Den. The pupils have taken advance of these amazing learning spaces to develop their understanding of the world as well as all areas of our rich curriculum.
8 children in total from across school went and took part in an Interactive performance. They all listened intently, joined in with the activities and could answer questions related to the story of Anousha.
‘Anousha has been signed up to play in her local rugby tournament. There is just one problem… she doesn’t know anything about rugby! After her Grandpa’s advice proves less than helpful, she decides to visit her local library to do some research, but there is so much information; it all seems very confusing. Come and help Anousha as she learns how to become brave, strong and confident, ready for her first Rugby League match’.
Learners in Cedar 2 have been following a simple recipe to create hot foods which they can take with them to cold climates. Pupils were able to independently create their own pizza toppings and had great fun tasting them.
Some of Oak 2 ventured out to My Life and learnt how to care for different animals. Based in Standish, pupils had the opportunity take part in animal care within the small animal farm, with goats, chickens, pigs, ducks, rabbits and sheep.
On Wednesday the 28th June, Maple 2 had a lovely visit from Meadowbank Primary school and Curious Critters. The children saw lots of different animals (A snake, Skinny Pig, and African Beetle and a lizard). All of the pupils listened to Danny when he was explaining how to treat the animals with care. Everyone enjoyed looking and handling the different critters. Well done Maple 2 for great listening and looking after your new friends from Meadowbank!
As apart of our Well-being Curriculum, school will be hosting reptiles on a regular basis throughout the year similarly to Little Barn Farm.
This week, in Pine 2, the children had an exciting afternoon. Parents came to visit. Our visitors helped us with a scavenger hunt in Nature’s Den. We were looking for signs of Autumn. Then we used what we found to make a potion. There was also sensory play and time to get to know each other. Thanks to all those that were able to come.
As part their of PE sessions this half term, the Birches have been on weekly educational visits to Howe Bridge Soft Play to work on their climbing, bouncing and turn taking skills. They have had such a great time and have been interacting with staff and their friends by getting them to play chase.
