Rowan Tree Choir Spreads Joy at Belong Care Home!

🎄 Spreading holiday cheer with our annual Sing and Sign Choir performance at Belong Care Home in Atherton!

It warms our hearts to see the joy on the residents’ faces as Rowan Tree Primary School students share the gift of music. This visit has become a heartwarming Christmas tradition since choirs founding a few years prior, and we’re already counting down the days until next year’s visit.

A massive well done to the pupils who performed and engaged so beautifully with members of our wider local community.

We were very grateful to receive lots of beautiful cards that the residents had been busy creating in anticipation of our visit!  🎅🏽

Sing and Sign Choir perform @ St Phillip’s Church

St. Phillips Church has recently had the pleasure of welcoming the Sing and Sign Choir. Members of the congregation had the fantastic opportunity to watch the choir demonstrating various signs while performing eight songs! It was a truly captivating experience that showcased the power of communication through sign language and Rowan Tree’s commitment to a Total Communication Environment.

We are incredibly grateful for our close links with St. Phillips Church, which made this visit possible. It is through partnerships like these that we can continue to provide unique and enriching opportunities to our learners.

Sing and Sign Choir 2023 Election

We are thrilled to announce that the Sing and Sign Choir is back for another fantastic year of music and signing!  Gather your voices and prepare those signing hands, because it’s time to choose the songs we’ll be learning together.

As always, we want this choir to be a fun and inclusive experience for all of our talented students. That’s why we’re putting the power in their hands by holding a vote!  Each member has been able to not only suggest songs but then vote for our favourite.

Stay tuned for more updates on our voting process and rehearsals. We can’t wait to see which songs will make it to our repertoire this year!

TOGETHER TRUST Music and Performing Arts Festival

Pupils from 10 specialist schools across Greater Manchester and Cheshire came together for the Together Trust’s Music and Performing Arts Festival. Hosted at the Lowry in Salford Quays, the music festival will showcased a number of performances ranging from singing to dance, with an ensemble of different types of singing groups.

Our very own Sing and Sign Choir elected to perform three songs which they did brilliantly. We are incredibly proud of their fantastic performance in front of such a large crowd.

Sing and Sign Choir performing at ATHOS

We were delighted to be invited to perform alongside other schools within Tyldesley and Atherton at the ATHOS Singing Festival organised by Mrs Tomlinson from St Stephen’s C of E Primary School. Each school chose to perform two songs, we were blown away by the variety of talent on display. Our Sing and Sign Choir elected to perform two choir favourites ‘Sing a Rainbow’ and ‘In my Paintbox’ which they performed beautifully to a whopping crowd of at least five schools. John our Head Boy described the entire event as “Awesome!”.

Choir on this occasion was led by Jaydan and supported by Mark, Gill, Amy, Kathryn and Louise.

Feel The Beat Workshop

This morning a group of pupils from our Sing and Sign choir have enjoyed meeting Alison from the Wigan Music Service whom has introduced us to a series of songs that we will hopefully go on to perform with five hundred other pupils from Primary School choirs from across Wigan within a live concert.

Alison first introduced us scat, also called Scat Singing, in music, jazz vocal style using emotive, onomatopoeic, and nonsense syllables instead of words in solo improvisations on a melody. Alison explained that all the different pieces we would perform would be within this genre.

Sing and Sign Choir visit St Phillip’s Church

A selection of pupils from our Sing and Sign Choir visited St Phillip’s Church to perform a selection of songs in relation to the service being delivered by Rev’d Tracy Marshall. Learners loved interacting with local members of their community and having the opportunity to explore places of worship in relation to our present R.E. topics.

Choir’s first concert!

On Tuesday 29th November we invited the local Church (St Philip’s) to enjoy refreshments whilst watching a performance from our Choir.

Our Sing and Sign Choir meet to practice every Friday lunch time. This was their first live performance, and they did so well, we were so proud of all of them for showing confidence, joining in with all songs and being kind and polite to our guests.

Our visitors from the Church also joined in and learnt some signs themselves. They said that they had a great afternoon and loved watching the Choirs performance!
Well done everyone #learningeverymoment

Sing and Sign Choir Election

The Sing and Sign Choir have reunited for another year of musical fun. Over the past few weeks choir have been discussing what type of song they would like to learn next and adding them to our Mind Map, getting suggestions from classes and teachers from across school. We’ve selected the most popular six and put them up for a vote! The Sing and Sign Choir look forward to rehearsing their new songs in anticipation of a performance in December.
