Every Thursday, some of our children from the Engagement classes, have had the chance to join some their peers at Meadowbank Primary School for forest school sessions. The children have had lots of fun getting to know each other in the outdoors, playing and exploring. It’s been really beneficial for all of the children and they have really enjoyed it.
On Friday 29th September members from our School Council attended an Art Workshop at Atherton St George’s Primary School. We helped to design and make clay bricks that will be used for a sign in Tyldesley Town Centre. Lots of Primary Schools from Atherton and Tyldesley have worked together to create this sign.
Pupils from 10 specialist schools across Greater Manchester and Cheshire came together for the Together Trust’s Music and Performing Arts Festival. Hosted at the Lowry in Salford Quays, the music festival will showcased a number of performances ranging from singing to dance, with an ensemble of different types of singing groups.
Our very own Sing and Sign Choir elected to perform three songs which they did brilliantly. We are incredibly proud of their fantastic performance in front of such a large crowd.

This recognition reaffirms our commitment to excellence, and we are bursting with excitement as we continue to make a positive difference in the lives of our learners.
Staff at Rowan Tree Primary School are spreading the word about the impact of restrictive diets on their learners.
Back in 2019 the school recognised from staff and parent feedback that a high proportion of their learners had a restrictive diet due to their additional needs, with pupils often eating just one or two types of food. This was having a negative impact on the children’s weight, mood, oral health and ability to enjoy family meals.
Senior leaders committed time to researching avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) before developing a training plan for staff and families and a Food Facts curriculum which included daily personalised sessions for every one of the school’s 117 learners.
Leaders know the Food Facts project is having a positive effect by monitoring each learner’s food intake and seeing the increase in the variety of foods and textures they try. This information is then used by staff to support the learners to further widen their diets.
Rowan Tree Primary is now providing training, resources and ongoing support to colleagues in mainstream schools across their local authority so that they too can support pupils with additional needs and ARFID.
Judge Vijita Patel said: “The evidence base presented by the school in their submission clearly demonstrated the impact of their work. The way the school has tackled the challenging topic of diet and worked with pupils, staff and families to make it work so well is extremely impressive.”

We were delighted to be invited to perform alongside other schools within Tyldesley and Atherton at the ATHOS Singing Festival organised by Mrs Tomlinson from St Stephen’s C of E Primary School. Each school chose to perform two songs, we were blown away by the variety of talent on display. Our Sing and Sign Choir elected to perform two choir favourites ‘Sing a Rainbow’ and ‘In my Paintbox’ which they performed beautifully to a whopping crowd of at least five schools. John our Head Boy described the entire event as “Awesome!”.
Choir on this occasion was led by Jaydan and supported by Mark, Gill, Amy, Kathryn and Louise.
The final session of a series of 3 workshops looking at ‘Using visuals to support communication’ with some of our parents/carers led by our Autism and Communication Lead Chris Hoyle.
Chris Hoyle formerly a Sleep Tight Trafford Coordinator at the Together Trust has worked with autistic children and young people for over thirty years. Chris has become an integral part of the RTP family and offers a variety of workshops open to carers/parents throughout the year.

Rowan Tree were very lucky to have the opportunity to work with a local artist Victoria. You may have seen some of our previous work in the school entrance. This time we worked together to paint and print we also used collage, felt making, stitch and ‘clay‘ modelling techniques. We are looking forward to the finished piece of art to be displayed within the Early Years Department.
With a nature theme running throughout, the pieces will be really warm, lots of foliage, bark textures, flowers, creatures and creepy crawlies. It will be a like an immersive experience walking through it. Well done everyone on your fabulous artwork, as well as fantastic engagement and speaking & listening skills.
