Early Years Sensory Studio

This week in the sensory room, Early Learners have been using switches to operate the projector and the bubble tube. This is a fun way to learn cause and effect. When the children used the switches with the bubble tube, it also helped them practice colour recognition and turn taking.

Diwali

On Thursday 4th November all classes in school looked at the celebration of Diwali. Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists. The festival usually lasts five days and is celebrated during the Hindu lunisolar month Kartika.

All pupils learnt about the festival through stories, we particularly looked at the story of Rama and Sita. We also incorporated our PSHE targets throughout the day as there is a big focus on family and sharing time together at Diwali.

All classes enjoyed time in the Immersive learning room watching and creating sounds of fireworks. Pupils created Rangoli patterns, made tea light holders and explored different colours whilst making fireworks.

One of our families who celebrate Diwali sent in an activity pack for every child plus lots of lovely food to taste – all pupils had an amazing day and learnt so much about the festival.

Rowan Tree Shine at Kurling Competition!

Three pupils from Ash 1 represented Rowan Tree at a Kurling competition at The Orchards Federation in Farnworth. Lots of other special and mainstream schools attended from around the area. Ebony, Oracle and Justin all learnt a new skill and had lots of fun playing and meeting new people. All pupils represented Rowan Tree very well and we are all so proud of them! We got through to the semi-final and came 3rd!

Rowan 2 Immersive Literacy

Our KS2 English topic this term is using a dictionary. Today Rowan 2 went to the immersive studio to explore initial letters of words. Some pupils engaged with cause and response activities by using their bodies to make the floor move. Classes love going into the immersive studio each week!

Maple 2 Boccia

This week, Maple 2 were asked to take part in a Boccia competition so we thought we best get some practise during our PE lesson in for the big day. Boccia is a target sport played indoors with soft leather balls. It is a sport of intriguing tactics, incredible skill and nail-biting tension. Once the children had a go, they were hooked! The pupils worked in teams encouraging each other at every step. The children gave advice to each other including ‘try rolling it softer’ and ‘Oh, I think that was too fast’. Well done Maple 2. Bring on the competition.

Pine 2 Tea Party

Barnaby bear came back to the United Kingdom from his adventure around the world and invited us all to his afternoon tea party! Pine 2 made and followed instructions on how to make finger sandwiches and cupcakes for the afternoon tea. The children then set up the table with all the things we would need (plates, cups knifes, forks and the food). They carried the plates and cups with care counting them to make sure we had enough for everyone. It was delicious!
