Learning Every Moment in Poplar 1

Poplar have been busy learning in different environments in school and in the wider community. Developing our communication, interaction and maths skills.

Elm 1 take a trip

The pupils in Elm took a trip to Markets Street this week. They showed excellent listening skills and with support from adults, showed some awareness of the need to stay safe. The pupils walked up and down the street looking at the different shops. Some locals stopped to talk to them.
Learners looked at the pictures of Atherton in the past talking about them being in black and white. The pupils then had support to find the same part of Atherton and take a new picture. When each place was found, the pupils ticked it off the list.
The pupils then walked to Tesco where we followed a shopping list looking for fruits and vegetables that are orange in colour. The pupils were given cash to pay for their food.  We looked at the number on the coins and notes. When back in school, the pupils helped create a tally of which fruits are most popular within the class.

Ash 1 are jumping for joy!

Today some Ash 1 children participated in their first in class Flexi-Bounce session. They all had a go as some different skills and had a play on the trampoline. Flexi-Bounce Therapy is a fantastic way to develop muscle tone and relaxation. Looks like great fun has been had by all!

Boxing For Better After School Club

Learners have enjoyed their first session of Boxing For Better, a new afterschool club which has begun to operate for KS2 pupils on a Wednesday afternoon until 4:30pm.

We want to be able to offer everybody the opportunity to take part in boxing training, and enjoy a positive experience from all of our programmes.

We are committed to listening to the needs of our participants and adapting our sessions so that they benefit as much as possible. We want to remove any barriers which stop people from realising their potential and aiming high.

We want to provide opportunities in areas other than just boxing so that we can unleash the maximum potential of our participants.

Willow 2 at Music in Mind

Willow 2 are loving music in mind. John has wanted to get up and sing for weeks but has always felt so nervous. Today, John and Cohen got up and sang Shotgun which is a song we’ve also been learning in choir. What superstars!

Music in Mind is run by two experienced musicians, singers, qualified teacher and performers who are gaining popularity facilitating fully interactive and inclusive music sessions.  Ian and Al visit us every week to deliver music sessions to learners in KS2 and put on a performance for the whole school once a term.

Ian Unsworth is an experienced guitar and Ukulele teacher with over 30 years experience. He currently teaches one to one at Wigan’s Music 90 music school. Al Hart is a qualified teacher and has researched the effects of music on the brain and nervous system using EEG Brain Wave monitoring hardware. Al is also an experienced performer, singer who can play a wide range of instruments.
