Understanding and Using Visuals training

Our recent “Understanding and Using Visuals” training session was a fantastic journey into the world of visual aids for parents/carers!

Exploring innovative ways to support our amazing children, this session highlighted the power of visuals in enhancing communication and understanding.  From visual schedules to communication boards, we’re empowering parents to create a supportive environment at home.

Big thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to this enriching experience!

Together, we’re fostering a community that embraces diversity and creates an inclusive learning environment for every child.

The training was led by Chris Hoyle, formerly a Sleep Tight Trafford Coordinator at the Together Trust, who has worked with autistic children and young people for over thirty years. Chris has become an integral part of the RTP family and offers a variety of free workshops open to carers/parents throughout the year.

Celebrating Black History Month at Rowan Tree

October is Black History Month. This national celebration aims to promote and celebrate Black contributions to British society, and to foster an understanding of Black history in general.

The theme for Black History Month 2023 is ‘Celebrating Our Sisters’.

‘Celebrating Our Sisters’ is about honouring the amazing achievements of Black and Mixed Heritage women.

At Rowan Tree the children and staff have celebrated black history month in a variety of ways including: Listening to music by black musicians and playing musical instruments along to different types of music, dancing to music, celebrating each others differences through art and story and some cookery.

KS1 Harvest Festival

Today learners in KS1 celebrated Harvest. They sang, danced and said thank you for our food by putting our food donations into a hamper ready for it to be delivered to our local Care Home to thank staff for the fantastic work they do and to share with their residents.

This was a fantastic achievement for all to sit in the hall and join in with the celebration. Well done everyone.

Thank you to all for your kind donations to make this hamper possible.

ROWANFEST 2023

Rowanfest, our school’s annual summer fair, was an absolute blast! Uniforms were given away for free, and we had the pleasure of hosting Little Barn Farm, where students and families enjoyed some delightful animal petting. The atmosphere was electric with a tombola, live music courtesy of Music in Mind, and mouthwatering refreshments. Colorful balloons filled the sky, and inflatable obstacle courses added an extra dose of excitement.

It was amazing to see past and future pupils, alongside residents of the local area.

We’re thrilled to have shared this unforgettable day of fun, laughter, and joy with everyone who joined us at Rowanfest!

Thank you to our amazing school community for accepting the change in date which ensured we were able to have fun in the sun.

Whole lotta Lego love!

Our weekly lunch time ‘Brick Club’ has been a popular session with pupils this year. Who doesn’t love a good play with Lego?! Brick Club is hosted by our trained Lego Therapists Alison and Mandi. It’s a freeplay session that allows pupils the time, space and resources to explore their creativity, develop some fantastic build skills and have lots of fun! It also provides an opportunity for pupils across different classes to come together to play and chat, encouraging new friendships and building up communication skills. Pupils often choose to have their Lego build photographed at the end of the session and added to our display wall. We are all really proud of our fantastic creations!

Rowan’s PASSED!

On Tuesday 4th July Rowan and 6 staff members from across school took part in The Dog Mentor Training Course. Rowan has been in school for a while – getting to know his environment and we are so proud that all of your hard work with him was recognised, and he passed his official assessment.
Rowan will start on a full timetable from September to support the children with the support of his trained mentors.
We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful things and the big impact we know he is going to have in school.

Sing and Sign Choir performing at ATHOS

We were delighted to be invited to perform alongside other schools within Tyldesley and Atherton at the ATHOS Singing Festival organised by Mrs Tomlinson from St Stephen’s C of E Primary School. Each school chose to perform two songs, we were blown away by the variety of talent on display. Our Sing and Sign Choir elected to perform two choir favourites ‘Sing a Rainbow’ and ‘In my Paintbox’ which they performed beautifully to a whopping crowd of at least five schools. John our Head Boy described the entire event as “Awesome!”.

Choir on this occasion was led by Jaydan and supported by Mark, Gill, Amy, Kathryn and Louise.

KS1 Art Workshop

Yesterday afternoon KS1 took part in an Art workshop held by Rowan Tree’s local artist: Olivia in Ash 1!

Olivia drew amazing pictures linked to school and the children took turns to paint them for the KS1 display and also a smaller version to take home. They had such a wonderful afternoon and enjoyed showing off their painting skills! Thank you Olivia for sharing your talents!!
