The Birches have been very green-fingered and been weeding their planter ready for our school’s planter competition. The children have been learning lots about plants and seeds in preparation, and look forward to caring for the contents of their planter in the upcoming weeks.
Outdoor Learning
Birch 2 explore Nature’s Den
The Birches have been exploring outside in Nature’s Den. They found a big muddy puddle and took turns to jump in. The children attempted to measure how high they could jump, and enjoyed creating patterns with their muddy foot prints.
Once they had finished they all took turns on the swings and requested an adult to push.
Elm 1 Roasting Marshmallows
Today during their Outdoor Learning lesson, Elm 1 had a very exciting and special activity in store… A fire pit! The children listened attentively as Jaydan explained the very important Fire Safety Rules when accessing our school’s fire pit.
One by one the children went to sit by the Forest School Leader and carefully held their long sticks, complete with a marshmallow on the end, and held them over the edge of the fire. Once done they removed the stick from over the fire, counted to ten with the help of an adult to ensure the marshmallow was cool enough and ate the squidgy, sweetness.
What’s the time Mr. Wolf? Pine 2
What’s the time Mr. Wolf? Pine 2 have been learning about time in maths this term.
We’ve been focusing on the big hand being at 12 to make o’clock. We took turns being the wolf and making up times for our friends to count and step forward before we chased them for dinner time.
Fir 2 Animal Care at My Life
Little Barn Farm
Today we’ve enjoyed our first session with the Little Barn Farm. The children all enjoyed spending some time with the animals and took great care in petting them. All classes had the opportunity to visit these animals and hold them.
Videos and photographs from Elm 1.
We’re really excited to hear that the Little Barn Farm will be coming to visit us again regularly and we look forward to seeing all our new animal friends again!
It’s a farmer’s life for Fir 2
Fir 2 have been visiting ‘My Life’; a centre where they can work with animals, tend to plants, and really get to know what it’s like to work on a farm. This week the children had the chance to weed and water the plants, plant their own bulbs and feed some of the hungry animals.
The children grew in confidence and independence doing important jobs for the centre. They got to see where eggs came from first-hand at the chicken coop. They also learnt that a daffodil starts its life as a little bulb in the soil. So much learning and so much fun. Well done Fir 2.
Butterfly Garden
We have enjoyed partaking in the school wide project of Butterfly Garden. This educational kit has given us an unforgettable opportunity to watch caterpillars change into chrysalides and then emerge as beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies.
The entire transformation from caterpillar to adult butterfly took about three to four weeks, each class took super special care in making sure their Butterflies grew to be big and strong ready for the next stage of their journey.
